Members have access to a number of valuable benefits as compensation for their dedicated service.

In order to become a member of the Virginia State Police Association you must be a full time employee of the Virginia Department of State Police.

Membership Benefits for Full Members

Death Benefit
The Association provides a $5,000 death benefit ($10,000 accidental death) for each member every year. This benefit also covers a spouse for $2,500 and each dependent child for $1,000. Please contact the office if you need to change your beneficiary or if you need additional info.
Legal Representation
VSPA provides in-house legal services to our members for criminal, civil and administrative matters arising out of the performance of their duties. Emergency Relief Fund
VSPA administers this fund to assist those in emergency medical, legal or family crisis situations. This has proven a valuable service to those who would otherwise have nowhere else to turn.
Scholarships for Children of Members
VSPA awards scholarships to children of active or retired members of VSPA in good standing. Scholarships are awarded based upon the amount of funds available each year. (Applications are available in the first week in April.)

Political Action Committee
With permission, your dues can be deposited directly into our PAC account. This allows us to accumulate a sizable war chest to be used during political campaigns to support candidates who are favorable to our legislative issues.
Lobbying
Mr. Bill Carrico, the Executive Director and Chief Lobbyist, works solely for the benefit of our Association and the law–enforcement community. Bill keeps you informed by sending out all member e-mails to keep you up-to-date of the happenings at the Capitol. If you would like to be added to the VSPA e-mail list, please give us a call with your current e-mail address.
Retirement Badge or Crystal
Sworn members are entitled to receive a retirement badge and Non-Sworn members are entitled to a VSP Crystal. You must be retired from the department; however, if you retire early, you must be collecting the VRS benefit.
Member Mortgage Loan Service
VSPA members are eligible for mortgage banking services from Fidelity Blue Line Mortgage Company. This company has been providing personal mortgage banking services for State Troopers throughout America for over a decade. Annual Conference
VSPA holds an annual conference over a weekend at a hotel in the state where our members can enjoy a wide variety of social activities, as well as attend numerous informational seminars.
Family Picnic
The VSPA family picnic will be held on Saturday, October 7 at The American Legion in Lynchburg. Members and their families can enjoy a wide variety of food, fun and fellowship. This event is Rain or Shine! Look for more information to come out at the end of May.

Service MembeRs on Active Duty
If you are a member that is called out on “active duty” the VSPA will cover your dues until you return to VSP. Please contact Membership Services to coordinate. Trooper E-News: The VSPA sends out e-mails titled “Trooper E-News.” Trooper E-News articles are based on current events as they happen across the state.
